IHU where Surgical Excellence meets Innovation
The IHU-NHC Medical Center is among the top hospitals in France for its reputation, mortality index, patient safety and care-related factors, such as nurse staffing and available technology.
The Sections of Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery and Interventional Endoscopy are a core component of the IHU. Led by Dr Bernard Dallemagne, Dr Silvana Perretta, Dr Lee Swanstrom and Dr Juergen Hochberger the program takes care of patients with diseases of the upper gastro-intestinal tract. This includes cancers and benign conditions of the esophagus and the stomach. The IHU Institute is a high volume center for bariatric surgery with excellent operative outcomes under the direction of Dr Michel Vix. Most surgeries are performed laparoscopically or endoscopically using minimally invasive techniques that our team helped pioneer and continues to innovate in. Individualized patient specific care is a hallmark of the program. Patients receive state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care from a team that includes gastrointestinal surgeons and gastroenterologists working in collaboration with other specialists such as radiologists, oncologist and pathologists.
Expertise in Complex Cases
Gastrointestinal surgeons and interventional endoscopists at IHU are known for their willingness to treat high-risk, complex patients including those routinely turned down for surgery at other institutions. IHU surgeons were among those who helped pioneer laparoscopic, endoscopic and minimally invasive gastrointestinal interventions. Patients frequently seek second opinions from our team looking for medical sophistication most facilities cannot offer. The IHU also offers a wide array of surgical options often not available in a community setting.
