THE CLINICAL INTERNSHIP
Each student will be required to complete a minimum of THREE WEEKS of Clinical rotations over the course of the academic year. The purpose of this practicum is to provide exposure to unfamiliar techniques and procedures (endoscopic or surgical) and experience with the associated patient care (treatment, management and follow-up).
These three weeks will be under the mentorship of a DU-affiliated surgeon or gastroenterologist at one of several national and international academic partner institutions. The practicum may also be done at the students’ home institution if dedicated mentorship and clinical experience are available.
Each student may choose their schedule for the Clinical Practicum. You may do one day per week for the duration of each module, one week at a time, or all three weeks at once. Whatever is convenient for you.
We recommend that you choose the site based on its focus and your interests and your level of experience. Each site has a link to learn more about the affiliated mentor, their expertise and the scope of the institutional practice.
Please note that If you choose your home institution a letter of agreement from your designated mentor is required together with his/her contact information in order to validate the practicum.
